Biomechanical model of human eyeball and its applications
نویسنده
چکیده
Attempts at the mechanical identification of the human eyeball are often not very effective for two reasons: the material parameters determined by tension tests on corneal and scleral tissue specimens are not sufficiently accurate while numerical models of the eye, integrating material and geometric parameters, are often based on unrealistic assumptions. The examples presented here cover refractive surgery, Goldmann applanation tonometry and the optical self-adjustment of the eye. The discussed problems are illustrated with calculations showing that it is possible to effectively use a biomechanical model of the eye to identify its material parameters. Also the handicaps, the Imbert–Fick law among them (numerical calculations do not corroborate this law), lying at the basis of applanation tonometry are demonstrated. The conclusions can help to create a realistic numerical model of the eyeball.

A biomechanical modeling of an automotive passenger body to investigate the vertical vibration in various road profiles using transmissibility analysis
In the current paper, a biomechanical model of human body with unique structure is developed for evaluating the biodynamic responses, the vibration transmissibility and the transmitted accelerations to vertical vibration for the seated position with ignoring backrest support. In this regard, the 6-DoF Lumped-parameter model with six concentrated masses which are connected with linear springs an...

This paper describes the vision system for a humanoid robot, which includes the mechanism that controls eyeball orientation and blinking process. Along with the mechanism designed, the orientation of the camera, integrated with controlling servomotors. This vision system is a bio-mimic, which is designed to match the size of human eye. This prototype runs face recognition and identifies, match...
متن کاملBiomechanical analysis of blast-induced traumatic brain injury
Purpose: Blast-induced traumatic brain injury (bTBI) is one of the causes of death or permanent invalidity which can occur unexpectedly in both military and civilian populations. This study set out to conduct a combined Eulerian-Lagrangian computational analysis of the interaction between a single planar blast wave and a human head in order to assess the extent of intracranial shock w...
متن کاملComputer assisted planning and orbital surgery: patient-related prediction of osteotomy size in proptosis reduction.
BACKGROUND Proptosis is characterized by a protrusion of the eyeball due to an increase of the orbital tissue volume. To recover a normal eyeball positioning, the most frequent surgical technique consists in the osteotomy of orbital walls combined with the manual loading on the eyeball. Only a rough clinical rule is currently available for the surgeons but it is useless for this technique. The ...

PURPOSE To compare the biomechanical properties of porcine, rabbit, and human sclera before and after riboflavin/ultraviolet-A (UVA) collagen cross-linking (CXL). METHODS Eight rabbits, 8 porcine eyeballs, and 8 human eyeballs were included. One rabbit eye and half of each bisected human and porcine eyeball were treated with riboflavin/UVA CXL. Untreated fellow rabbit eyes and eyeball halves ...
